What it is

The explanation

Conversion is the share of visitors who take the action the page exists for: requesting a quote, calling, ordering, signing up. A hundred visitors and three enquiries is a three per cent conversion rate.

Which action counts is up to you, and that matters more than it sounds. For a trade business a WhatsApp message is worth more than a newsletter signup, even though the second is easier to measure.

Why it might matter to you

4 points
  • Doubling your conversion rate is almost always cheaper than doubling your traffic, and it works immediately rather than in six months.
  • A normal rate for a B2B services site is roughly one to five per cent. Far below that, and it is rarely the traffic.
  • The biggest losses are usually dull: a form asking too much, a phone number that is not tappable, a page too slow on mobile.
  • You can only improve it once you measure it, and measurement belongs in place before launch, not after.

How we handle it

In practice

That is why WhatsApp is the primary button on this site and the form is the second route. Somebody looking for a tradesperson would rather message than fill in a five-field form, and a site that reverses the two measures very precisely how many people did not convert.
