The situation at garages and car dealers

Garages

The phone at a garage front desk rings all day for the same three questions: when can I come in for the MOT, what does a service cost, and is my car ready. Each of those interrupts somebody working on a car or serving a customer, and none of the three needs a human.

At the same time the car market has moved online. Anybody looking for a used car checks the big platforms — where you pay per listing. Anybody looking for servicing searches locally and compares on price and availability. A garage without online booking and without a price indication loses that customer to the chains that have both.

What is different for garages

5 points
  • Online booking for MOTs and servicing, linked to your workshop planning. That is the one component that pays for itself within months in saved phone time.
  • Fixed prices for fixed jobs. MOT, minor service, major service, air-con regas — those can carry a figure, and that figure is what people choose you on.
  • Brand specialisation stated. "Volkswagen and Audi specialist" attracts a different and better customer than "all makes".
  • Used stock on your own site, not only on the platform. Anybody googling your name should see your cars without you paying per click for it.
  • Repair status available to check. That is the third phone question, and a short status message removes the entire category of call.

What that looks like at garages

An example

Somebody gets an MOT reminder and looks for a nearby garage on a Sunday evening. They find your MOT page, see it costs 59 euros, see there is a slot on Tuesday morning, and book it. No call happened, your workshop is already planned on Monday, and you won a customer at the moment your desk was closed. That last part is where most garages leave revenue on the table.

Questions about garages

3 questions
Should my MOT price be online?

Yes. It is the most compared price in this trade and whoever does not name it gets skipped. If you are dearer than the garage down the road, say what is included.

Will a booking module connect to my garage software?

Often, depending on your package. If not, it can run as a separate diary your desk takes over in the morning — less elegant, still a saving.

Is putting used cars on my own site worth it?

If you have more than a handful, yes. Not instead of the platforms but alongside: visitors who already know your name should not have to be paid for twice.
